RNB was never held in high regard in the 70s, Stevie Wonder was. Whats Goin On, There's A Riot Goin On, and Superfly got jack because the themes on those records were less universal than Stevie's. No AOTY nomination for What's Goin On was more asinine than even the MBDTF snub. This is no recent occurance.

I agree with this. Rock definitely does have the most appeal for whatever reason (see Mumford & Sons winning AOTY). Rockism is real and ironically, rock is probably the most creatively stagnant genre right now.

I'm sure as time goes on, there will be more R&B/hip/hop nominated. Though, I also see your point about the necessity for a huge pop single to appeal to a wider demographic.

The Grammys was a boring mess. People actually relevant currently in the music industry that dominated should be performing. How is Tori Kelly performing and not Future? This isn't even about awards, like Kanye said its about relevance during the award show and the Grammys this year felt like something from 40 years ago I was so bored. No one should just accept that Rock is the standard. It shouldn't be and that's why Kanye is taking a stand. I also don't know why at this point why Kanyes narcissism upsets people so much. What is it doing to you? He will always be a narcissist, get over it.
