Drunk in Love was always the better and more catchier song than XO. Compare the hooks/melody of those songs and it does not even compare. DIL's is way more soaring. XO's lays flat. I agree XO was tailor made to be a pop hit, but whatever. I think to say Beyonce does not care about pop is not true. Clearly, she tried with XO and Pretty Hurts but it just didn't work out
It's because she did a dual release. Rhythmic and urban (and the general public) both chose Drunk In Love, so XO didn't stand much chance.
If XO was released BY ITSELF to ALL FORMATS it would've probably done fairly well.
But frankly Rihanna is #1 right now with Work, and Hotline Bling, The Hills, Trap Queen, etc. I don't think Beyonce should keep trying with these ballads for pop radio, unless that's what she really wants to do. If she wants a pop radio hit she should do a catchy club tune with a hip hop rhythm and loads of synths, then let it crossover (that's basically how she got a pop radio hit with Drunk In Love).
Well while I love the song it was clear the gp was not here for it at all did you see its iTunes performance?? all the damn hype from the surprise release and not even like that it caught GP's attention. I don't think radio is the one to blame here it was the Gp and they were allover DIL. I love it tho and it sucks that it flopped like that.
