Oscars: Two Original Song Performances Nixed From Broadcast
'Manta Ray' from 'Racing Extinction' and 'Simple Song #3' from 'Youth' will not be performed on the show.
The Academy announced that Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and the Weeknd would perform their nominated tunes from “The Hunting Ground,” “Spectre” and “Fifty Shades of Grey,” respectively, on the telecast.
Does this mean that the two snubbed songs are definitely not winning?

They skipped Life of Pi/Chasing Ice's songs for 2012. For 2011, they weren't mandated to have 5 nominees and there were only 2; both of them were skipped. For 2009, all 5 nominees were skipped.
They only like celebs performing I guess.

I looked at the article more carefully, and the skipped performances would've been by a Korean woman and a trans woman.
It's SO clear what the Oscars really mean when they want to embrace "diversity" as much as possible and which groups they care about not slighting. I bet if there was some non-famous person of a certain minority group on one of the nominated songs, AMPAS would let them go up so as not to get people mad. But trans and Asian performers don't have big blocs in Hollywood so can be snubbed easily even in the wake of the nomination outrage.

Yeah this is lowkey a mess is like they don't see when backlash could occur
but to be fair the songs at the Oscars do become tedious at times so them opting out for the safest choice and only having the popular artist perform is a smart idea. + both of those song would not really work in a 3hr long ceremony like The Oscars
