I don't believe gay marriage should be allowed anywhere. Just my beliefs. It creates a negative culture and opens those "gays" up for further discrimination.

As I've said earlier, the institution of marriage should be abolished. It clearly is creating too many problems and divisions in society in the 21st century.
Marriage should remain as a strictly religious institution (i.e. remain a rite of the Catholic Church, of course, or a pious ceremony in many other Churches, however it is treated with any religion), but it will receive no recognition from the state.

Honestly, I agree with this. Civil unions should become the norm. Marriage is an outdated idea.

your suggestion is horrendous first of all the only recent issue with marriage has been whether or not gays should be allowed to marry....that's ONE problem. Secondly, you speak on marraige remaining a "religious institution" which is beyond scary because marriage IS NOT associated with any particular religion. marriage outdates all modern religions and recorded history itself. if anything, certain religious groups have attempted to hi-jack marriage and define it's laws according to their own beliefs.

and lastly, marriage is not simply a "spiritual union" but rather a LEGAL union. therefore, it's impossible to abolish marriage as you would be abolishing everything associated with it including certain tax priveleges,immediate parental rights (for males), medical decisions needed to be made hastily, and a ton of other things as well. at best, you could redefine marriage but that would serve no purpose if it remained the same exact "institution".

If you guys believe in preserving marriage as a legal function, that's fine. But the current system is complex as hell and the whole idea needs to be streamlined into a simple definition that isn't associated with the past or "tradition," because with gay marriage it just riles people up and leads to these wasteful campaigns like Prop 8 in California. All the money pumped into both sides of that thing was just a f***ing waste. We can all keep our traditions to ourselves.
And, yes, all the things associated with marriage need to and it has to be rebuilt from scratch as a seperate concept without the connotations. It's so grotesque as is, or, cluttered with "a ton of other things as well."
I'm actually very surprised that marriage hasn't been abolished already in the past. Seems like something Robespierre should have done.
Anyways. Just my view. Hopefully something constructive can be done with "marriage" in the next century.
