Also what are some must try food there? All I know is about Texas Barbecue which I I'm fine with that.

If you're visiting Texas for the first time, the San Antonio/Austin area would be a great place to start. Austin is great if you're over 21, 6th Street is one of the best streets in the US to drink and have a good time. It's basically the Texas version of Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
Hippie Hollow is super fun too if you're comfortable being nude in public
You have the San Marcos area in between the two cities, with the largest outlet shopping center in the state I believe. They have just about every store you can imagine.
Then San Antonio has good sporting events as well as the River Walk.
Attitudes in Austin are very liberal for Texas, so being gay or whatever isn't an issue. San Antonio is starting to lean blue so they have the same ideals for the most part.
