Lmao it was someone very close to MJ that worked for him and adored him who confirmed it, he said it in an interview he loved Gaga he listened to her music and that's because Gaga was about to start rehearsing for the This Is it concert.

I think a lot of people assume he didn't because the son he raised alone whom he was very close to felt comfortable enough to shade the hell out of her last night. That's why this pen pal thing seems a stretch.
I'd guess that he was the third name she wrote, before she started scribbling all those others.
Plus: the Fame era lightning bolt is the same as Bowie's Aladdin Sane, Artpop's "Fashion" name drops his song "Life On Mars," and he's probably the biggest direct influence on her career tbh.
