BNA is always a strange category.
Not only was Macklemore arguably the worst choice that year but it's debatable whether Ed should been eligible as it was not the year of "the recording that first establishes the public identity of that artist... as a performer".
That same year Lorde got 4 nominations including SOTY and ROTY, but wasn't nominated for BNA. Can't complain about the end result for Lorde, but some of the choices in that category aren't logical.
She wrote the song as a solo track originally.
