Madonna stood up for gays when it wasn't popular and people thought that they all had aids and were flaming nymphomaniacs and not real people.
She dedicated a portion of truth or dare to that struggle because she was surrounded by it.
The dancers were not just an accessory. they were people she bonded with and an audience she knew supported her.

Gaga has severe persecution complex. If she was in the early 90s, she probably would lie and say she has AIDS too just to make fans feel like she is in the trenches with them. That is just how her personality is.
