Asians Express Frustration After Officer Liang Verdct
Quote:
“In the wake of unfortunately so many deaths of unarmed black men, some cops gotta hang,” said John C. Liu, referring to what he contended was a widespread opinion. Mr. Liu, the former New York City comptroller who ran for mayor in 2013, has been vocal on social media about his belief that Officer Liang was unfairly singled out. “The sentiment in the Asian community is: It’s easier to hang an Asian, because Asians, they don’t speak up.”
Joseph Lin, a real estate agent and activist who had organized rallies at City Hall last winter after Mr. Liang was indicted, expressed frustration over what he said was the tepid response of Asian-American officials and community leaders. For too long, he said, Asian-Americans have been too passive or indifferent because “they don’t want to be troubled; they don’t want to be bothered.”

“If you’re a group that doesn’t have a voice, a political voice, you will be mistreated,” added Mr. Lin, who plans to organize a protest over the verdict on Sunday.
Peter Liang is not a white officer, and he is being the one who is thrown under the bus,’’ Ms. Dang said. Referring to Eric Garner, an unarmed man who died on Staten Island after an officer put him in a chokehold, she added, “Meanwhile, white officers have not been held accountable.” None of the officers involved in the Garner case have been charged with a crime.

Now maybe the Asian Americans can rally with us. They don't benefit from white privilege so they need to realize the reason they're getting the heat instead of white cops is because of race

If he's the one who choked him to death then IDT there's much they can do. However if it was someone else and/or more of them they should all face the same charges.

A bullet from Mr. Liang’s gun ricocheted off a cement wall and killed Akai Gurley, 28, an unarmed black man and the father to two young girls, as he walked down the stairs in the Louis H. Pink Houses, a public-housing project in East New York, Brooklyn, on November 20, 2014. Throughout the trial, Mr. Gurley’s family had framed the shooting along different racial lines, saying it was another example of unjustified police violence against black men.

Hm, he's facing 15 years...

Apparently the choke wasn't what killed the guy, it was the bullet mr Liang fired. :x

my bad then. Then idk why they think this will fly, if he wasn't the one choking him, how is it possible for them to blame it on just the asian dude?
Also am I reading something wrong?
This is what it says in the article...

Ty. From what I see, it seems like he accidentally shot him, but he didnt seek medical attention for the man. In that case its not like he should get off scotch free, but what I find ABSURD is that the man who killed Eric Garner got off Scotch free (I think) which is RIDICULOUS. I'm not very surprised though, they make a minority pay the price for what some cops have been doing, but when it comes to the white cop they get to run away

This case is so not popular. He ****ed up and he was justly convicted.
That being said... Crazy how the NYPD threw him under the bus. If he was a white officer and wasn't a rookie, he would have been protected even though he was wrong. So this should be an eye opener to the Asian Community. But hey.

I've seen this on my newsfeed. Really an unfortunate case all around.

He deserves more than 15 years. WTF? Are people serious with this? Unfairly singled out my ass. Are they really expecting people to feel bad for him for being excluded from the white good ol' boy network's protection after shooting an unarmed man and just leaving as if nothing happened? **** him.

He deserved punishment. Not sure if you actually understand what people are mad about.
Anyways here is a video that explains the situation pretty well for people mad about it

He deserved punishment, but their is injustice when he is the only one getting punished, mean while the White cops are getting off scotch free.

I get it, but **** him. The other cops need to get theirs too, but he's not somebody I'd rally behind as an example of "injustice" simply because he wasn't the beneficiary of the ****ed up trappings of white privilege.
