For starters she claims a number one is something you need to be a big artist and this is false. Many big artists never went number past, present or future. And let's not act like it's always been about the music. Again even before Mariahs time we did have artists who based their music on their image. In fact, you can argue that in many genres it's always going to be about the persona over the image.
It would be nice if it was about the music. But I don't think an artist like Mariah should be talking as she wouldn't be as success if she had no image. Even artists like The Beatles had an image, and it was about the image when they came out. And they had their share of major controversy. Many artists that we acclaim had what Mariah was quick to damn.
this is true. So many people prioritize selling themselves before creating music these days. Obviously branding has always been a factor but it shouldn't be all it takes to be successful
It's not just the artists fault but the record labels aswell. Instead of investing in the all talent on their labels they literally use the Vanillas/same major stars and never let *hidden talent release (artists that may care about their craft more). Also this whole "no one release a video k? k" trend needs to stop.
Wait Mariah only has 5 grammys? That seems... wrong. Someone give her a lifetime achievement like yesterday please... she's one of the best pop music writers (not even going to mention voices) out there.
She didn't lie. Some "artists" can't even sing but make millions with their job while others give 100% and get nothing. And those others aren't even artists who are unknown to the media or public. The media just ignores them. The pop industry needs talent/triple threats and not just studio singers. A great song alone won't make me a stan.
