there has been countless studies showing that gay men are treated as inferior beings in fraternities. Usually they aren't picked to join a fraternity, and if they are, they are treated much different than the rest. it shows that other frat men treated them like novelties, scrutinized them, and made jokes about their homosexual behavior. should colleges fix this problem?
"I know how to fix homophobia. Let's segregate the gays from the rest of society!!1!11"
Absolutely not. You just have to find the right fraternity with the right people, and if you're worried about all of them treating you badly, don't join one.
Plus, what makes you think that sororities won't treat you like novelty either? You know how many college girls are dying for their stereotypical gay friend to gossip with and put makeup on?
"I know how to fix homophobia. Let's segregate the gays from the rest of society!!1!11"
Um no. That's not the answer. The answer is allowing gay men to choose between sororities and fraternities. Segregation would be saying all gay men must be in their own gay fraternity.
You might personally not be able to experience that and it really sucks that you didn't have a great college experience but you should still look into trying to get a house on campus that will cater to those who feel the same way as you did. Alumni involvement is always great and it could be a great thing to do!
The OP would never do it though. He would rather argue about it on the internet because it's more convenient.
As for the question, no. Join a frat and clock those homophobic str8s.
The fraternity/sorority system should be phased out and should be replaced with social clubs that anyone can join. Most young people don't only socialize along gender lines and have both male and female friends. The whole notion of fraternities is outdated and is responsible for keeping rape culture alive.
No. There's plenty of avenues to pursue (namely: starting your own frat that supports the gheys). Far easier and less messy than trying to claim gender discrimination.
