Do people sometimes think that you are a different nationally?
Im American but ive had people ask me if im from England, Germany, Sweden, Russia and other countries, I've been told that I have a 'European' look to me.
How can people be so ignorant that they have preconceived notions of your nationality? You can't look like a nationality, especially if we're talking about heterogenous countries like the US and the UK. Nationality is based on what passport you hold and which country you're a citizen of. It honestly irks me when someone tells a non-white American that they don't look American.
I'm assuming by nationality you're actually referring to ethnicity, since people get those mixed up a lot.
I'm Filipino and when I moved to California a lot of my classmates thought I was French for some reason
People wonder that I'm a plethora of different ethnicities, I'm in high school and people keep thinking I'm Indian or Japanese. This one person thought I was half-white half-German, like that doesn't even make sense
Yes. Because I have a very African last name most people assume I am from west Africa. My ancestors are from there but my family has lived in America for hundreds of years
All the time. I get Spanish a lot, I've also gotten Puerto Rican, Argentina, Colombia, French (), Brazil etc. Anything but my actual country. Wait I got Portuguese once too dd

Basically Ethnicity =/= Nationality
True but people make assumptions based on looks, names and accents. I mean if you are totally honest, would you be surprised if a white or black girl told you she was from China? People make these assumptions based on what they've seen I guess

This is really weird to me. In Canada there's practically no one who's 'just Canadian and nothing else.' In Canada, when you meet someone new one of the first questioned asked is "what's your background?" And if you just say "I'm Canadian" you will get a strange look and a reply "but your ancestors had to have come from somewhere!!!"
In Canada we're not so "AMERICAAAA IS THE BEST, IM A PROUD AMERICAN" like the US is. In Canada everyone stans for the country they or their ancestors come from. Everyone has a sticker of their country on their cars
