Lady Gaga, The Fame may have not outsold whatever Avril's first album is called but it was way bigger seeing as how it's one of 3 albums (Adele's 2 most recent albums) to sell upwards of 10 million in the last 7 years whereas plenty of other albums were doing Avril's debut numbers back in 2002.
The Fame singles and videos were also bigger.
