Why do people say that there is more homophobia coming from black people than white people?

Too religious and less educated due to years of not being able to get education

I don't know but I've noticed this, I guess Gay people are the only ones they can exert their dominance over and lash out on with anger. Make them feel oppressed. Bullied becoming the bullies mentality.

Something that may contribute to Homophobia in the Black community may be their love of Hip Hop/Rap which most of it tends to be not Gay friendly (with some rappers insulting homosexuality in music or in interviews, using the F word a lot) and also the protestants/evangelists/baptist Black Churches where they tend to be very Homophobic.

I think that Catholics followers in the USA tend to be more accepting of Gay people and that is a significant percentage Religion in the USA. And they tend to be White so that helps somewhat in lessening a lot of Homophobia. Although I am not a Catholic and I am aware of the Catholic Church stance on Gay people, in the USA they tend not to condemned Gay people for been Gay, but for 'Gay acts' and Gay Marriage. As opposed to preach that been just Gay is a sin.

Maybe I am mistaken but that is my perception in the USA.

The premise is wrong because they aren't the ones making the homophobic laws...its white people.

There's not though. Those are all stereotypes placed on black communities as well as Latino communities to make them look bad compared to white people.

Religiosity, mainly. I feel like in urban/coastal/liberal areas whites are non-religious or at least secular in much higher degrees than the black community, while both are about equally religious in rural/southern areas. Tragic that white people brought them here, beat out their culture and indoctrinated them with Christianity, and are probably now moving toward chastising them for holding onto it now

It's related to religion.
It's the reason white conservatives are against gay marriage and the reason a lot of Hispanics and Latino's are as well.

Less educated=less tolerant. That's it, black people on average have worse educational opportunities.

Obviously there is homophobia in ethnic communities due to religion. But some people want to act like certain racial groups are just inherently homophobic like it's in their blood.

Especially when quite a few attacks on gay men have been by white males and some black males.

Like the attacks in Texas and a bashing here in Philly by a group of white guys.
I think instead of placing blame on a group of people we should look at these issues from a individual standpoint.

It doesn't hurt to actually try and communicate instead of using blanket statements which helps no one.
There is a good discussion to be had it just depends on if anyone is willing to step up to the plate.

Are you talking about the Dallas TX string of Gay attacks? Do you have any link that these suspects were White? Cause last I heard that they are described as Black perpetrators.

I've never understood this need to lump a bunch of people together on one aspect (gay, black, white, etc.) and then stereotype them all as something negative. Like, it spreads so much hate and division

Statistically speaking African Americans are more religious and less educated than white Americans obviously because of the history of oppression. Those two things are correlated with homophobia.

Still, if 39% of them support gay marriage that's about 15 million people by my rough calculations, so don't make assumptions about people they might actually love gays!

Some of you are really trying it

First off, quit grouping a whole race together as if they're one. Second, other races have just as many homophobic people.

The South = Religious = Homophobic. There is a large Black population in the Deep South, where people also tend to be heavily religious, and heavily religious people tend to be homophobic

Religion, education, bigger significance of masculinity, etc etc.

Laverne Cox spoke at my school and said that a lot of transphobia and homophobia in the black community is due to the fact that black men were emasculated by whites in the past and now it's a trigger of sorts for them to see "men" behave as "women."
