I don't get the point. The circonflexe actually helped me when I learned French. It's very distinctive and easy to commit to memory, especially with infinitives. Naître/reconnaître/connaître, etc. Look how basic and characterless être will be without it. It's not that big a deal (like colour/color and favourite/favorite), but it just feels so simplified, basic and unnecessary.

Leave circumflex alone and get rid of é & è. They were a pain in the ass when I was learning French, I have always mistaken them.

That would make no sense since é and è have different pronunciations.....

I don't know much about french (only have a beginner's understanding of it) but I'm all for simplifying languages for the purposes of easy acquisition and seeming as how this move was done to that end I support it.

I'm trying to learn French, so I like this. I NEVER managed to remember where that accent goes, since I never got its purpose.

But I respect that French people may be upset about it. I'm always upset when there's rumored changes in my native language, although they never actually materialize

It will still be commonly used I believe. sur/sûr mean completely different things . If anything we should bring back mute s since that's what was replaced by ^.
