This is some really great stuff. From the hair, to the Minnie Mouse t-shirt, to the quick cigarette drag introduction - it tells a story so genuine that you have to have to watch it multiple times to fully appreciate the finer details. 'Mise en scène' is so often overlooked these days, a byproduct no doubt of the fast-paced, consumer-driven (drive-thru – if you will) society that spits out content-on-demand at the expense of quality and art. We are left feeling a sense of empathy for our protagonist Carla – but it’s also hard to overlook my subtle distrust in her storytelling. Taken entirely from her point-of-view in the colloquially termed “selfie-style”, it’s impossible to learn both sides of the story... Who is Charlene? Does she actually exist? Did she actually imply that Carla is fat – to her face (this is debatable)? That’s what makes this work so great. It’s entirely left up for the viewer to decide.
