- 38th Grammys, Mariah received six nominations for her best album Daydream including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Carey was completely snubbed that night, losing every one of them.
- Diana Ross performed during the SB halftime show, titled "Take Me Higher: A Celebration of 30 years of the Super Bowl",she was taken from the field in a helicopter, making the best departure of all time.
- Madonna announced her first pregnancy
- 1996 was the year when One Sweet Day finally ended her reign and became the longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1 ever.
- that year also saw the birth of one of my favorite Pet Shop Boys albums, Bilingual.
- Princess Diana and Prince Charles get divorced
