It's so hilarious to see people really trying to convince themselves he is soooo super irrelevant. He is literally thee biggest Urban/R&B star of this generation (aside from Beyonce?) He is one of the top 3 biggest names in Urban music today.
Ok, so we all know LG5 wont sell anything near 1m first week, but the real question is how many copies does she needs to sell in order to not be called a flop?
I'll say anything above 300k is great and anything above 400k is amazing
And if she gets a decent hit on top of that, it's game over...
Fist is relevant in Urban music. All these girls (Sevyn, Tinashe, Jhene, Nicki, etc. run to him for a hit). He is coming kind of a h00k act now, though.
Beyoncé is a titan of capitalism, her own special economic zone. When "Formation" dropped, her online store was already stocked with merchandise sporting the song's catchphrases. A sweatshirt that says "I twirl on them haters"? $60. A baseball cap that says "hot sauce"? $36.
Which leads to this cynical reading of “Formation”: Beyoncé waited until black politics was so undeniably commercial that she could make a market out of it.

He's always been the go to guy for hooks though. Before all these R&B girls it was rappers (up-coming and or trying to come back) running to him for hooks (and him putting them on) Big Sean, Tyga, Kid Ink, Fat Joe, Ace Hood, etc etc.
