The NY Times article is completely flawed. If anything, FAME was about Britney and I think Gags even hinted at it. It was about the fall from fame and being blonde, rich, and carefree before it all crashes. Beyonce never fell so The Fame Monster is not about her at all. Beyonce loves fame, and she knows how to handle it.

Gaga's whole career is essentially about Britney (and post-TFM, also herself). The Fame, The Fame Monster, the original concept for ARTPOP, the FAME perfume, everything fits perfectly in line with that. Also Marilyn to an extent.
