That's the intent I think.
To take negative stereotypes and proudly proclaim whether it's to do with hair, nose, or food.
She even refers to herself as 'Texas Bama'.
According to urban dictionary:
"Originally, a Bama was a southerner (from Alabama, for instance) trying to blend in up north, but was so obviously country that it didn't work. Now it's more general and just means something funny-looking, unsophisticated or country as hell."
That may have to do with connection to how she speaks and all that.
The entire premise of the song is to throw aside the stigma and be authentically you. Embrace the stereotypes and love yourself.

I was just thinking about this. Nobody has a problem with Gaga, Miley, Demi, Christina, Britney being half naked but Bey does it and it's "ratchet", "ghetto", "pandering to black stereotypes". Bey been releasing "black music" for 19 years?!
Sounds like people don't want her to be black at this point. ****, what do people want, Crazy in Love re-releases every era.
People are far too used to black people pandering to the commercial, white-dominated industry that they're actually MAD at women like Rih and Bey for actually releasing music that's rooted within their culture. Let the black women live

Kendrick has the luxury of dropping a song and having no one question his message or authenticity, but let Beyoncé do it and people would rather talk about how good she looks (also important) but they don't want to legitimize that a black female has to say.. they'd rather focus on literally anything else
then again, she doesn't give a **** what people like u think. that's the beauty of the song, it's not meant for small minded idiots

It's great that it gives you a sense of superiority! I would not want to deny you your main source of worth.

This song won't end racism and black poverty, but it can definitely keep the conversation burning.
It not like the hive claim Beyoncé to be MLK.
If parallels HAVE to be drawn, she's more like Muhammad Ali or Tommie Smith (black power salute gold medalist in the 60s). Celebrity allies who's role in the movement is to broadcast and publicize these issues.

I appreciate your comment. You didn't Come off defensive or yelling. You actually made a point which is the whole point to sharing opinions.. That being said I somewhat like formation.. It's growing on me. I can appreciate it if others find that kind of depth to the song and I'll respect everyone's opinion. I apologize to everyone if I offended you or if you think me being hard on Beyonce's lead single is racially motivated. ( It's not smh)

i certainly derive self worth from being open minded, socially conscious, and intelligent that's for sure. my appreciation for this song is simply a very small facet of that. but even if i didn't like the audio component to Formation, i would still be able to recognize the importance of the visuals
time to leave tho, i can tell when i'm going at a brick wall

The fighting and explicitvness. Not surprised it's embarrassing. Not liking formation and not agreeing to its supposed strong stance on black pride ( bc Beyonce and Jay say so) = racist. I've learned so much tonight. Bye. I'll still keep liking Beyonce ( not certain collabs though..cringe) and I'll still go see her at her Formation World Tour..

This whole White America vs. Beyonce narrative they're trying to establish is laughably desperate.
They think this song is actually gonna cause an uproar, and it's amazing seeing how apparent they are in wanting it.

Wait, she didn't even write this song...?
No artistry whatsoever.

It won't cause an uproar, or garner any media coverage because just like other politically motivated songs that came before it, they are still aimed towards the state of American society. The US is way too patriotic for songs such as these to find any mainstream success.

Well, I stan for musicians... so yes. Although I'm not too familiar with her work and haven't given it a fair chance, I don't think it would be my type of music. Plus, I like when artists sing/play songs they've written because it adds personal and emotional depth to the music.

You don't have to be a songwriter to be a musician. The song isn't supposed to be super personal anyway. It's made to be relatable and it did its job

|
beyonce and black people in general are not here for white people's appeasement. the reason why you think she shouldn't have performed it is the exact reason why she did and the girls will remain pressT.
now pump on over to youtube and give formation another spin because clearly the message flew way over your head sis.
