I've never understood football even though I played it for a few years in middle school. I never understood any of the rules or whatever.

No. The only thing I understand is you have to tackle people to get your ball to the goal

All the positions on the team, all the lines and other markings on the ground, etc.

Football? Have no idea.
Soccer? Hell yeah!

I understand 99% of the rules. The basics are pretty easy and everyone should be able to understand those after watching for 10 minutes.

There are some really strange rules that are kinda hard to understand, but also only matter every 50 games or whatever.

Yes. It's actually a very strategic game if you get to know the plays they run

No. You are allowed to pass forward in Football

So yes, very similar. Other than the protection differences.
