Today is my 4th day working a fast food job and I already KNOW Retail will be my next job. It's my first job, too. The people just don't stop coming and it's very fast paced, I guess I know why it's called FAST food. Even 30 mins til closing they choose to dine in, like...

Retail seems a lot easier. Which one is more demanding?

I wouldn't know because I work as a dogwalker

But some fast food joints are pretty quiet at some times of day. Especially if you live in a decent sized city with every single chain available, so I would say retail is more demanding.

Not to mention, you have to actually advertise products to people unlike fast food sometimes

I've only worked 2 jobs (outside of the home), fast food and then retail lol. I only did fast food for 3 months and have been working retail for 8 years. Retail is more demanding bc there's more to do, more customers to keep up with (if you work in a department store at least), and more people to answer to.

I'd much rather do retail. Only 3 months doing fast food and I swear I've never been treated so badly in my life.

I work Friday and Saturday nights

I just changed my schedule from Saturday to Sunday because no.

My first job was fast food and I didn't even last for a month, I HATED it. I was stuck in the back preparing orders but it was such a busy branch where most of the time I was alone in the back being responsible for all the orders, and it was so stressful.

I'm a cashier and my managers have me doing EVERYTHING under the sun. Washing dishes (which isn't my job), making cookies, taking out trash, clean the dining room BY MYSELF!

And the restaurant I work at is so strict. I literally got wrote up yesterday (my third day there) because I didn't make someone sign a receipt over $25. As if im not NEW and already knew that

Are you working retail now?

I don't see why anybody would choose fast food over retail. A lot of kids choose fast food because it's easier to get hired on (I literally ONLY got hired because the manager's friend was into me... and this is something I was told during the interview ) but I think retail will always be a better choice.

We literally have no choice but to apply there. I rarely see teens working at Walmart, etc near me. Even though I had an interview with them but didn't get the job.

Even my co-workers said they wished they had done retail

I was never responsible for being a cashier since when I was hired, my manager asked me if I would be okay working in the back. So I was basically just responsible for unpacking boxes, preparing orders and keeping the kitchen clean. But I was working during the evening so I was also responsible for closing. So I had to clean all the cooking equipment and the dishes, as well as take out the garbage.

My manager hardly cared with training me, I was surprised how I got by I'm so glad I quit tbh

But no, I'm not working at the moment, I'll be job hunting when summer comes though But some of my friends work in retail and the experiences they tell me aren't as stressful, I hated working with food

I only accepted the job because I was looking for a summer job at the time and I was desperate But my manager mainly hired me because I was Asian as well, along with my other coworkers.

Worked 6 years part time (but with almost full time hours), and I swear never to work at a fast food chain ever again. Will be working in one of the biggest banks in Canada soon as an IT admin

Fast food is a lot more fast paced and social while retail was more daunting and annoying for me. Ive worked in fast food at an amusement park with ghetto rude customers, ive worked at a small family owned retail business which was boring as all hell, and now i work at Starbucks which is very social and has its fun moments which i love

Now that you mention it, yeah most of the workers at Walmart seem older. Like 25+

Where I work you have to be at least 17 and the best time to get hired on is around September/October bc we start prepping for the holidays and they start hiring a ton of new people.

I worked at Papa Johns and now I work at a shoe retail shop.
I have to say I much prefer retail because there's more freedom -- I'm not wearing behind a counter, wearing an awful uniform (cap + shirt) etc. But it's more simple because customers know what they want (a pizza, sides). There's more complaints too about wrong orders and stuff like that.

Fast Food at six flags would have been my first job since they hire everybody who applies. But the amount of people who run through there would drive me bananas.
