Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad Pro outsold Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) entire family of Surface tablets last quarter, according to research firm IDC. Apple sold an estimated 2 million of the 12.9-inch tablets, while Microsoft sold just 1.6 million Surface tablets (including the Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, and Surface Pro 4). This contrast sharply with a recent report that suggested Microsoft's tablets were gaining ground on the iPad. In short, Apple's iPad business remains in decline, but Microsoft hasn't dethroned the Cupertino tech giant -- at least not yet.
Meanwhile tons of iPhones are being locked and rendered useless by error 53
From Apple:
Quote:
“We protect fingerprint data using a secure enclave, which is uniquely paired to the touch ID sensor. When iPhone is serviced by an authorised Apple service provider or Apple retail store for changes that affect the touch ID sensor, the pairing is re-validated. This check ensures the device and the iOS features related to touch ID remain secure. Without this unique pairing, a malicious touch ID sensor could be substituted, thereby gaining access to the secure enclave. When iOS detects that the pairing fails, touch ID, including Apple Pay, is disabled so the device remains secure.”
She adds: “When an iPhone is serviced by an unauthorized repair provider, faulty screens or other invalid components that affect the touch ID sensor could cause the check to fail if the pairing cannot be validated. With a subsequent update or restore, additional security checks result in an ‘error 53’ being displayed … If a customer encounters an unrecoverable error 53, we recommend contacting Apple support.”
But the surface genuinely is the more innovative and better device This is coming from a Surface Pro 4 owner and an Apple stan. Talent doesn't always win
Nah, they're doing more than just fine. They are barely loosing any money off their hardware department as most of their revenue is through their cloud and enterprise, which has been rising 100%+ every quarter.
Besides, Android royalties pays for their hardware operations.
But the Surface is not available worldwide like the IPad Pro is, quantity not equals quality and the Surface Pro has a way better performance than the SP4.
It's like everyone laughing about Apple because they only sold 5.7M Macs will all the different models when Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo sell millions of their laptops.

Quality not Quantity
This. In retrospect to Surface:iPad ratio, I see more Surface Pros around now in my campus colleges.
iPhones account for 70% of Apple's entire revenue stream, I didn't know that.. but it's not surprising since the phone has done tremendously over the last decade.
