Clean Bandit's Neil slams journalist over George coming out!
Quote:
Clean Bandit’s Neil Milan clashed with showbiz journalist Dan Wootton[The Sun] over the latter’s ‘well duh’ response.
@Dan Wootton - George Shelley's done a Tom Daley and come out as bisexual, something that's long been known in the showbiz industry http://

@neil_milan - this is such a patronising and unpleasant response why is there always someone who says it
@neil_milan - @danwootton i'm not sure that any of what you just said had anything to do with what I said. I just think the 'I already knew' response is wrongly dismissive of the power and individuality of any such statements, and has a sneeringly homophobic tone.
@danwootton - @neil_milan Comments like yours make it v difficult for me as a gay man in the mainstream media to discuss anything regarding sexuality.
@neil_milan - @danwootton well I think it's important that the statements of people with access to the kind of platform that you have are scrutinised. and if your coverage of Charlie Sheen's HIV diagnosis is anything to go by then I think some introspection and caution in your discussion of *anything* in the mainstream media might not be a bad thing.
@danwootton - It's so sad that boy band members still feel the need to hide their sexuality. It's 2016 people!
@Popjustice - @danwootton That’s true but isn’t a lot of it down to the past and sometimes present behaviour of showbiz writers?
It wasn't long before Wootton was called out for being insensitive and TOTALLY missing the point of George's video, with Clean Bandit's Neil Milan leading the critics.
Wootton tried to defend himself, but Neil refused to back down, saying Wootton had a "sneeringly homophobic tone." Wootton also tried to backtrack, claiming he meant "doing a Tom Daley" as just posting a YouTube video. Sorry Dan, not buying that one.
It seems like Dan's on a real roll at the moment - Peter Robinson from Popjustice's attempts to have a calm conversation with Dan ended with this charming response:
Lovely.
SO MUCH ARGUING TO KEEP UP WITH. Basically, the point of all this is that saying "we already knew" when people come out is an inappropriate response and one that detracts from the strength it takes to publicly speak about sexuality.
In a video posted this morning, the Union J singer revealed that he’s had relationships with both women and men, but also said: “I’m not going to label myself.”
Since then, numerous news outlets have reported on the singer’s announcement by doing exactly that – labelling him as bisexual.

@hey_whatsoever - @danwootton he didn’t say he was bisexual, he said no label. Bit disrespectful to label for him Dan.
@larryfied_ship - He did a George Shelley and said he didnt want to be labeled and you went ahead and labeled him. Asshat.
@adlynch - Er @danwootton why not say: well done? You are the reason people keep it to themselves. You should be ashamed of your tweet.
What do you think? Should the labeling stop, cause its part of the reason most people are scared of "coming out" since it brings a lot of negativity. And people "start looking different at me". As George said in the video - he kept repeating "Im not changed, Im still me, Im still the same person I've always been..."
I saw this when it happened, Neil is completely right, Dan is awful, close to being England's version of Perez, he's gross and just exploits all celeb things for his own desperate attempts at creating click bait/headlines.
Like he's a gay guy, why is he so gross in relation to George's coming out?
