I get that Domino sounds similar to Katy's music, because Dr Luke also produced it, but other than that...

I think Kelly had more of an impact in that respect. Katy said herself that record labels wanted her to be a "kelly clarkson". She's been cited by a lot of critics and sources as making the "break up anthem" big again, and you see people like Demi and Miley (at the beginning of her music career) following that.

Yeah, it sold more albums by far but the singles are not even close to Roar and Dark Horse (and I think they are not even close to half the singles from TD from what I've seen in her receipts thread lol). And I don't know about the Breakaway World Tour total gross but the Prismatic World Tour grossed +200m, which is massive.

You can't really compare Kelly's single sales to Katy's, because the digital market was JUST starting when the Breakaway era was happening. At the time, SUBG was one of the highest selling digital songs of all time with like 1.5 million sold. The singles' sales don't reflect how big they were.

I'd say Kelly. Breakaway was a monster back in 2004-2006, it's just that her head's gotten way too big, and her ego led her to her own downfall in 2007. Had she just listened to Clive, she would have been already at 100M albums sold by now.
Plus, she's got a Grammy.

Katy for sure, although Kelly's hits helped Luke become a top producer so she indirectly benefitted Katy's career!

That's not the case at all..... She knew My December wasn't going to be that successful. She was very unhappy at her most famous period during the Breakaway era and didn't want to be the biggest popstar in the world anymore. My December was an album she needed to make for personal reasons, but Clive sabotaged it.

Okay, that's not how it happened at all. Kelly didn't want another album as successful as Breakaway. She said multiple times, even in her booklet for My December, that she "needed" to make that album to deal with what she was going through. She suffered of depression and the lowest point in her life during the Breakaway era, hence the song Irvine in which she sings to God about struggling with suicide. Her head didn't get too big, she wanted to not be the main pop girl anymore.

Also, Clive Davis is the same person that was against Breakaway and told Kelly that it would barely go gold. He even wrote in his bibliography (in his chapter devoted to Kelly) that she didn't want Behind These Hazel Eyes on the album, despite Kelly writing that song herself for the album... Don't give that eyesore that much credit for Kelly's success.

You must have read Clive's book because that's not how it happened.

She was at a low point in her life during the near end of Breakaway era. She needed to make My December for personal reasons but Clive his big ego had to insist she make commercial and even tried to bribe her with 5 million dollars to replace a bunch of songs. She refused and then Clive sabotaged her at a showcase.

Plus Kelly has repeatedly said numerous times that she's not about the pop girl game anyway. So, she's not bothered about what you're trying to pass off as fact.

Kelly's impact on music is huge regarding the poprock sound and many producers she made hitmakers. Plus, Since U Been Gone is definitely a classic. Kelly's gonna go down as a legend in the future for her amazing voice, and even though I like Katy, I can't say the same for her.
