If "All About That Bass" is still your ultimate, No. 1 jam, I have some good news for you: Meghan Trainor's new single, "No," is coming soon. How soon? The 22-year-old singer-songwriter told Fuse recently that she thinks it'll be released at "the beginning of March." That's so soon! She also revealed that, much like "Bass," she penned "No" to be an empowerment anthem for women. "It's a big anthem about telling a dude, 'Nah, I'm good — I'm out here on my own and I'm good with it,'" she said. "The scene is me in a club, and the dude comes up to me and I go, 'No no no. I don't need your hands all over me. I'm good. I'm gonna dance on my own with my girls.'" However, there's no need to worry about "No" sounding like a rehash of "Bass": Trainor described the track as having an "urban beat."
Though she seems quite excited about "No," the tune was actually a last-minute addition to the tracklist for Trainor's upcoming sophomore album, Thank You. In her aforementioned Fuse interview, the "Lips Are Movin'" hit-maker said just as she was finishing the LP, her record label, Epic Records, told her she didn't have her lead single yet. "I left that meeting and I went to the studio and I wrote a big anthem that was called 'No,'" she explained. "And I came back to [Epic Records head] L.A. Reid the next day, with it all produced and written, and I played it for him and he played it 24 times at 9:00 p.m. at night, because he loved it so much. He was like, 'There it is.'”
