Brooklyn Beckham slammed for "sheer nepotism" (Burberry)

Photographers Are Mad That Burberry Hired Brooklyn Beckham, Says It's "Sheer Nepotism"

Brooklyn Beckham was recently announced as Burberry’s latest photographer, in charge of the brand’s latest Burberry Brit perfume campaign. Beckham, who is the 16-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham has expressed his interest in photography before. However, according to The Guardian, a lot of photographers are very unhappy about this. Professionals have slammed the choice, saying that hiring Beckham was “sheer nepotism.” Photographer Chris Floyd even goes so far as to say that Brooklyn’s jump to professionalism “goes against everything his parents represent,” and that “David and Victoria Beckham represent sheer willpower and graft. Especially her, she’s climbed that mountain all by herself. They represent hard work and then their 16-year-old year son comes along and it’s sheer nepotism. He hasn’t done it from hard work, which is counter-intuitive to what his parents represent.”
Another photographer, John Gorrigan says, “He’s obviously not going to be doing the lighting, he’ll have no clue of the programmes, the cameras or Photoshop,” Gorrigan said. “It’s going to be so well managed – he’ll have the best hair and makeup, the best models, the very best equipment, so that the chance of any risk is greatly reduced.”

Why do what his parents represent matter though? I get what they're saying but this won't change a single thing, stay mad.

Being given a job solely because of your name should be looked down upon. If he was older, then sure, maybe he proved himself and deserves the job, but 16?

If he's a good photographs why wouldn't he get the job? He deserves it.
Those other poor photographers can stay pressed I guess

They're right. It isn't fair to get a position solely because of a family name you never even worked hard for. In fact, there's many struggling photographers who are looking for their big break only to be swept aside for some rich kid. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure each and every single one of us would be unhappy if we were in those photographers shoes.

I agree. It's obvious he got the job because of his last name, and his parents.

This is ridiculous and inexcusable. In a field like photography when people spend decades until they could even hope of getting with a brand like Burberry, this is a slap in the face to the craft of it. Imagine how the real photographers must feel.
It's sad because a lot of people will probably see his pictures and say "wow so amazing!" when he probably doesn't know anything about lighting and didn't do anything besides maybe framing and pushing the capture button.

Tbh, I get where they're coming from. Who wouldn't want to shoot a Burberry ad campaign? Or any ad campaign for a well known brand in general. I'm low-key jealous as well. Life goals
But slay, Brooklyn. Those photos had better be good or else...

He doesn't even need to. Anyone who knows about commercial photography knows it's a joke.
There is no way a 16 year old knows enough about lighting to actually shoot Burberry campaigns I'm sure the kid can operate a camera and Photoshop fine, maybe even CaptureOne, but you can bet your ass there will be lots of studio crew members doing the actual lighting setup while he clicks away at the shutter.
