What are some of the factors?

A main one is that young people are simply ignorant about politics and the political process and they view political parties with high frustration, they also feel like their votes wouldn't count, they're constantly slammed by older demographics (and in this case some Hillary supporters) for being too progressives and too optimistic, they're far less likely too keep up with news channels like CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc... and far, far more likely to view channels such as MTV, NBC, etc. Even millennials who care deeply about change and revolution usually do it through community service rather than politics, a simple majority of college people are studying outside of their home states which makes the voting process more complex for them, politicians are failing to appeal to young people, etc... It's also showing that the percentage of young people (and people in general) who read newspapers has dropped dramatically over the past few decades.
Honestly there's way too many factors to consider but those are some key ones.
