That's because nobody wants "artistic" from Rihanna. I don't understand why her/her team/stans etc. haven't realized this. Was the Rated R era not enough? She is NOT respected or seen as a serious artist, period and trying to push a bunch of deep/artsy music isn't going to change that. NOBODY wants that from Rihanna, of all people. She is just not that type of artist. She needs to just record some Guetta tracks and keep it light
I know this but for as long as she has stans like collin and rihannafan that gass her up and tell her she's an ~artiste and the tone of her voice is so0o0 ~unique she'll keep thinking she's more than she is and everyone else will keep laughing at her for it.
Watch ATRL start hating it now just because the critics hate it.
I don't let metacritic scores dictate what I should like/enjoy so at the end of the day it's pretty irrelevant to me. It's only used for petty stan wars anyway. With that said, Desperado still punches

Yeah this is all that matters, critic opinions are kinda irrelevant. Especially considering they're obviously gonna be biased/have way too high expectations given the delays and general messiness of the era
Just listen to it and make your own opinion of the music, I personally think it's a great album
