It's an effortless bop. ATRL always hates on Rihanna though, if she doesn't release a generic dance-pop lead a la Applause or XO.
Remember that they also hated on We Found Love, Diamonds, FourFiveSeconds, and Bitch Better Have My Money until they saw the GP loved the songs and they topped iTunes.
Ya.. that’s it. It starts off with the chorus which is a good move if the chorus is really amazing but it’s flat like you’ve said, and so you expect there to be more and it never comes.
I don’t see the relevance of this comment to this thread, but Gaga’s vocals are certainly not lazy, nor do I find most of her production lazy, and her repetitve, cliché lyrics seem on purpose to me. Gaga gives the public their own ideas about popstars but blown up and deconstructed.

Work is at least 11 times more generic than Applause
The word WORK in a song ALONE makes it 10 times more generic than applause Let alone that it sounds like something her and Drake have already done in 2010.
And let alone that it's a collab with Drake The nerve.
It has potenital. I love the production, her voice isn't bad. But it doesn't go anywhere. Her voice delivery reminds me of Future.
It feels so good to get new Rihanna music though.
