Since we're getting iOS 10 and the iPhone 7 this year we can expect a lot of things to change.
Just because they are tending to worse than last year doesn't mean that they're doing bad. And honestly, most people were happy with their iPhone 6 and didn't feel the need to update. (Same goes for me.)
