Y'all acting brand new like the 'edit' function doesn't extend to thread OPs.

Jamaica was never in the OP

What's parts in particular, I'm thinking of reading up more on the topic and I could use suggestions. I'm from Cameroon so I could probably be of help

You have the black major like Voodoo (Vodun) in the Caribbean I believe and Juju in parts of West Africa.

You know Jamaica was included in that line before. It's not right, but it's okay. I just ate curry goat (Jamaican dish ) anyway

I'm not African, but I always looked at Voodoo and stuff as demonic evilness. I never actually even connected it to Blackness or Africa, but now that I'm older and able to actually look into it I find Voodoo, Hoodoo, Santeria, Candomblé, etc., kinda interesting and cool.

Thus Jamaica, a tiny island in the Carribean and Africa, a huge continent with loads of countries in it bare LITTLE in common.
You might want to get your geography ACCURATE before discussing black magic. Jamaica is a VERY, VERY PROUD CHRISTIAN nation (hence the homophobia). The vast majority of people wouldn't dare experiment with anything considered 'demonic'

So random.

Nah, i think i'll stick with God from the bible. It seems more rational

It's misconceptions like this we have to rid ourselves of as Africans.
Our gods were far more complex than that. And not to bash christianity but there are plenty of evil things about that religion.
The reason I left the religion in the first place was the brain washing these "christian" missionaries di in Africa. When they go as far as demonizing everything about us and our way of life, up to and including our names I don't see how I can just let that slide and believe their god/jesus. Who is just as imaginary

Because those things are common in the Caribbean. Vodun itself is common practice in Haiti and is believed to be a cultural mixture of many West African religions particularly the Yoruba.
IF You have nothing of substance to add to this conversation why are you here?

Eh I'm personally more inclined to think of them all as great stories that tried to explain the world around them and rationalize everything. Like, I love Greek mythology, but much of what goes on in the stories you can't take seriously. At all. But from a cultural and historical standpoint they're invaluable while fascinating as well.

I don't look down on any of it, I just have very little interest in learning any of it because growing up my family never really dabbled in any of it. I don't know about the rest of Africa, but in South Africa all that voodoo/juju/dark magic/witch doctor stuff is mostly overly dramatised mythology (although there's a very small minority that believes in it). You do have traditional healers, similar to shamans, who just use herbs and things of that sort to heal people, claim to have access to the spirit world, etc.

I feel like as children we grow up afraid of that stuff and attribute it to the vast majority of the ancient practices of our people.

I look at the Bible as a book of morals. I don't think none of it is real but they have great life lessons that we could learn from it.

Reconstructionism is pretty pointless. There's a reason why ancient religions and practices had mostly long been outdated, abandoned and supplanted by newer ones. And it's not all about because of imperialism. They have moral implications.
