Isn't sex biological while gender is socially constructed?

Most people say gender and sex are different - gender is how you identify in your mind, while sex is how your body is.

People who are very progressive say that gender and sex are not different at all - your body always follows how you identify in your mind. For example, if you identify as female, it doesn't matter if you have a penis or vagina, your body is the body of a female person.

My beliefs lean towards the second, but people have a variety of beliefs on this

biological sex = what you were born as (‎genitals)

a cisgender person is someone whose gender and sex match up ie. someone born with female genitalia and who identifies as a female. a trans person is someone whose gender and sex do no match up ie. someone born with female genitalia but identifies as a male
