So them feeling like they can't be true about who they are means it's less of a problem?
The fact that no out male actors have an Oscar is not a problem?
And the fact is that Carol got way more awards attention than all the movies with minorities so it's a way bigger snub that it missed Best Picture and Best Director. Like, it had the most Golden Globe noms and was tied for the most Bafta noms and won the NY Film Critics prizes for Picture/Director.
Now you could argue that all the groups are racist and that's why Carol did better than non-white movies with so many of them, but still, given how much non-AMPAS support it had its snub is clearly not of the norm.
