Because people like you act as if the struggle is nonexistent. Homophobia is more prevalent within the United States today than overt racism is and thats just a plain fact. The way being gay it treated in education, and equal rights under the law was only acquired LAST year. People act like since you can be in the "closet" all the discrimination disappears when its really is just perpetuates the spread from generation to generation.

This has literally nothing to do with anything. Half of the white people awarded every year could be gay and we just don't know it

But this has nothing to do with the issue at the Oscar's. For all we know, half of the white people with nominations and awards could be gay. It's not comparable. Sexual Orientation in general is more of a private thing. You only know as much about someone's sexual orientation as they allow you to. Race is undeniable.

This conversation will be around some years from here.
Most man of the Oscars nominations are from past/older generation, and some gays from that generation are still closeted.
Now gays are coming out earlier, and when our generation of actors reach their age to be nominated for Oscars, they will go through the same thing black people are going right now. Sadly.

That's the problem. The world don't know they're gay. If they were assumed would they have the same privilege? Would they win? Would they even get casted?

Who knows. But the point is we don't know. It's far easier to discriminate against people racially than it is to discriminate by sexual orientation unless you're aware of the sexual orientation of every single person (personally ask them, have experienced it, etc.) Again, sexual orientation is way more of a personal thing than race. Some people are super open about it and some people don't think it's anyones business but their own and you'd never know regardless.

It's really not comparable. I'm not saying that openly gay actors aren't discriminated against by any means. But it's not a legitimate comparison.

He's not wrong. The problem is that minority groups can never really come together - it always devolves into a pointless argument over who has it worse - so comments like his, although accurate, tend to detract from the actual issue. People always make comments like, "See, gays (asians, latinos, ect) are discriminated against too, so why are blacks complaining!!!" when the real focus should be ensuring that everyone is represented.

Well he's not comparing, he's not trying to tell which is worse, he just said a fact. There's is racial descrimination and so does sexual orientation descrimination on these awards.

So them feeling like they can't be true about who they are means it's less of a problem?

The fact that no out male actors have an Oscar is not a problem?

And the fact is that Carol got way more awards attention than all the movies with minorities so it's a way bigger snub that it missed Best Picture and Best Director. Like, it had the most Golden Globe noms and was tied for the most Bafta noms and won the NY Film Critics prizes for Picture/Director.
Now you could argue that all the groups are racist and that's why Carol did better than non-white movies with so many of them, but still, given how much non-AMPAS support it had its snub is clearly not of the norm.

Further proof minorities need to come together and work towards a common goal rather than splinter and have prejudices towards one another.

It's still very a much a straight white man's world.
