To the guy questioning my post...

I stand by what I said. I don't think that this offence deserves jail-time. It would have been much more logical to forcibly remove the dog and have it put down immediately. That would have resolved everything right then and there.

Instead you've put the man in jail and gifted society yet another burden. And in the end, he won't learn anything from the experience that he hasn't already. Its lose-lose.

It's the owners fault. I will never understand the mentality of some (not all) dog owners that they are in no way responsible for their pet, and that everybody else in the world should have to accommodate their dumbass pooch. If you're too LAZY and INCOMPETENT to TRAIN or PHYSICALLY CONTROL your dog, don't get one. Anybody injured as a result of your dog is YOUR fault as the owner, and any consequence that attack has for your dog is YOUR fault also. That's terrible, glad they noticed the dog he was going to euthanize and stopped it.

And at the people upset that the owner's dog was sentenced to die... He attacked someone, that's standard procedure. If you can't handle your dog responsibly as the owner, and it attacks someone (particularly a large, strong dog like a pit bull), then it should be put down. I love dogs as much as any American (I have had four in my life, from a Yorkshire Terrier to a St. Bernard), but that's just something to accept.
