Skins 9 year anniversary!
Quote:
Skins is a British teen drama that followed the lives of a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England, through the two years of sixth form. Its controversial storylines have explored issues such as dysfunctional families, mental illness (such as eating disorders and bipolar disorder), adolescent sexuality, substance abuse, death and bullying. Each episode generally focuses on a particular character and the struggles they face in their life. The episodes are named after the featured character. The show was created by father-and-son television writers Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain for Company Pictures, and premiered on E4 on 25 January 2007.

Let's praise this masterpiece of a show.
I always get a sad nostalgic feeling when I watch the first generation

Trivia: - Tony, Effy, Sketch and Rich are the only characters who break the fourth wall by looking directly
- 53 of 53 found this interesting
- During the auditions, Kaya Scodelario, who was 14 at that time, claimed to be 16 on the forms to get herself noticed. She later felt that she was too young for the part and was about to leave. But a producer told her to stay and convinced her to read for the part of Effy.
- Effy is the only character to appear in more than three seasons. She stars in every season except 5 and 6
- The first show ever created for the channel E4.
- In one episode, JJ performs a "magic trick" by blowing fire. As soon as the flame bursts out, you can see (and hear) the reactions of Cook, Effy and Freddie. According to Ollie Barbieri, the reactions of Luke Pasqualino and Jack O'Connell, even the scream of Kaya Scodelario, were all genuine. It was told to them that there will be a fire-blowing scene, but it won't be real. What they didn't know was that Ollie Barbieri would actually blow fire.
- Luke Pasqualino (Freddie) originally auditioned for the role of Tony Stonem. (
)
- The part of Effy Stonem initially went to another actress. Kaya Scodelario replaced her after she dropped out.
- Many people think Effy is the only character to appear in 4 seasons, (or 2 generations) but the characters Pandora Moon and Anthea and Jim Stonem (Effy and Tony's parents) all reoccur.
- During the fight between Katie and Emily, Kathryn Prescott was so in character that she accidentally hit Giles Thomas (Doug) in the face.
- While having sex with Sketch, Anwar lists Hugh Grant movies from the 90's and up. Right after he climaxes he states: I never get past "About a Boy". In fact, "About a Boy" stars Nicholas Hoult, one of the series main cast.
- Is one of channel 4's flagship schemes to show more British shows on their channel.
-
Rich, Sketch and Effy are the only characters to break the fourth wall by looking and the camera and Rich even says "Bye"
- The first series was shot entirely in HD.
- Series 2 is set 6 months after the finale of series 1.
- Hannah Murray and Mitch Hewer who plays Cassie and Maxxie in Generation 1 both shares the same birthday (July 1st 1989)
- Luke Pasqualino can be seen in a promotional poster for the second season. He would later play Freddie in both series three and four.
- Sid and Tony have the same post code.
- Myspace was given exclusive access to show the first 4 parts of the new episode for series 2.
- Aimee Kelly auditioned for the role of Mini McGuiness before Freya Mavor was cast.
Where are they now
This series is available on netflix. Watch it. You will not regret it.
