It's a thing called perception, which matters because most people here in ATRL (and maybe by the GP) think Bey is more powerful than Tay.

A: Because Superbowl is sponsored by Pepsi while Taylor is an endorser of Coke which means she is in a contract with Coke. You know that Coke and Pepsi are rivals right? Taylor won't break her relationship with Coke just to be in Superbowl. And besides, many publications wrote that Taylor should headline the Superbowl Halftime Show.

S2: Bey is till now the only musician that went directly to #1 with all of her albums since her solo debut, no sign of power indeed.

A: Taylor started literally from NOTHING. She was not a part of any popular group or won any popular talent search. She just popped out in the music scene, completely UNKNOWN. Plus, she started as a country artist, which means she started in a less popular, male-dominated genre. Her first single was only released in country, yet her debut album sold more than 5 million copies in US (and around 1 million copies worldwide) and then she became bigger in each albums. Her succeeding albums sold AT LEAST four million, went number one in six weeks or MORE, and continuously selling in years which is why her albums has such LONGEVITY in charts. That is power.

S3: Beyonce "performs" for 30 seconds during a ****ing Lip-Sync Battle and people piss themselves across the world (which even resulted in RTW going up to a 30ish position on Itunes), but again no power.

A: Taylor only wrote a letter to Apple and just posted this little letter in her Tumblr account and look what happened afterwards. She pulled out her catalog completely in Spotify. Those were only some of the things that made her rank #6 in Fortune's The World's 50 Greatest Leaders (only behind Tim Cook at #1 and Pope Francis at #4). She was also consistently in the top 10 of Billboard's annual Top artist list since 2007 (been ranked at #1 twice) and many more.


Just my thoughts tho. No hate. Both are powerful but please, don't belittle Taylor's power everyone.

1. Fair point but it's still a huge platform and Beyoncé getting it multiple times is impressive

Besides the fact that you're ignoring the hard work Beyoncé has been doing since she was a child before she even joined destinys child (like getting into a girl group means instant success ) Taylor doing country isn't that impressive. It's a pretty safe and easy genre for a white blond blue eyed girl like herself.

3. That Apple nonsense reeked of a publicity stunt, I'm sorry but it's just how I feel. And mess at her getting compared to the pope because she and other artists aren't getting more money like jay did the same thing and the media launched a smear campaign against him because "the rich just want to get richer" but if Taylor does it it's suddenly "boss, calling the shots, inspiring"

We should re-iterate that nobody is saying Beyonce has no power. This is a comparison thread of current status. Beyonce is an immense legend of course.

You need to chill on the crude offensive. It's not cute. You're biased because you're Beyonce fan and of course she has the most power over you. But going by every objective measure she currently does not exert as much influence on the public as Taylor Swift does.

1. No one said it wasnt , Taylor is legally not available to do the Superbowl despite public opinion wanting her to. Why did you interpret that as an attack on Beyonce?

2. You obviously have no idea about the state of country if you think it was that easy. When Taylor came on the scene there was absolutely no audience for her demographic as performers or listeners. She at the age of 11 took her mixtape into every radio station in the state trying to get it played trying to get interviews she performed at festivals, her family moved to Nashville so she could do this at 14 where she bravely asked country songwriting legend Liz Rose to write with her and from there after going to a writers summit in New York was signed to Sony as the youngest writer ever a job which she again bravely left because they wanted her to write for other people and wait till she was 18 to release her own stuff. She was discovered by Scott Borchetta playing in a cafe where he asked her parents to invest in his then NONEXISTANT record label and was introduced via a cma festival radio show. Country radio credits her for single handedly reigniting interest in country to the pre/teen age group and opening doors that did not exist for young songwriters beforehand in country see: Hunter Hayes, Kellsi Ballerini,

A: because Beys career was launched of the back of destinys child one of the most successful girl groups of the 90s while Taylors was launched from a startup indie label radio show in the country genre. once again not belittling Beys work they had different starts especially as Solo artists

Taylor is obviously more successful, statistically, even despite starting only in 2006. But that doesn't mean she has more power than someone who has been around for almost 20 years and has cemented herself as a modern day legend.
