I hate when you're on periscope and when the broadcaster says "where is everybody from" and people start saying the states from the us... it's like everywhere in the world is expected to know American states. It's a piss of really. It's not like anyone knows the states/provinces of other countries. It's a major pet peeve for me..

It's not incorrect, it's just the English translation

This A friend of mine from Haiti pronounces it "Hay-tee" because that's simply how you say it in English. I'm sure she wouldn't pronounce it incorrectly It's no different than the US being "los Estados Unidos" in Spanish.

I say Montreal, Canada when I'm abroad. Hell, look at my location tag.
Why confuse people, besides Montreal IS IN CANADA.
Anyway on a separate issue, it's also because anglophones don't want the stigma of having Quebec attached to their city when abroad, sad but true.
