Such a hierarchy does not exist in Islam and thus each cleric is representative as there is no one to veto or overrule what he says.
The fact still remains that this behaviour is tied to the religion. While not everyone may adhere to it, there is the possibility if not the probability that most do. That is not something that can be ignored or overlooked in the name of political correctness.

what? so you can just assume most muslims think this way without any evidence at all? also, christians picketing rallies of dead soldiers is tied to the religion too, does that mean most christians feel that way? do i even have to mention all of the terrible things the catholic church has done that various popes have endorsed?
and this makes no sense. so because there's no hierarchy, we should judge everyone by one cleric? even though there are tons of other clerics, and not every one has the same opinion or can represent the entire religion on their own.
