Yeah, even some native speakers mess up fairly often. No one bothers to correct them though. Sort of similar to when we hear a native speaker of English in the US saying "I should've went" or "I should've took", etc. It sounds cringey to some, but natural to many others.

It's come to the point where most native speakers now use the dative instead of the genitive in many cases. But if you want to come off as educated, and when you write, you'll have to continue using the genitive.
