In fact..I watched 12YAS because I kept seeing her everywhere and wanted to see what was all the fuss about.
So how come the hype for her and the movie were so big back then but this Idris Elba movie isn't being hyped up like that.

One's about The Institution of American Slavery, which we've learned is a really big deal in history class since we were kids.
One's about African child soldiers, which isn't a thing people in America talk about.
Also Slave's reviews were astonishing at 97 on Metacritic while Beasts is at 79 (lower than almost all the BP nominees, and lower than possible BP contenders Carol/Sicario/Star Wars 7).
Plus, I think Beasts would have at least done *better* if it wasn't a Netflix film. I mean, even the Emmys aren't entirely comfortable with Netflix yet with Orange only winning for Uzo and House of Cards only winning for Fincher (of major categories).
