I was trying to bring this up in the other Americans & geography thread. I don't know where **** is personally and I couldn't care less. I like learning stuff that I'll have use for. I'm not an explorer in the 1500s and I'm not going to be in Jeopardy any time soon. No one is going to come up to me on the streets, pull out a gun, and tell me to locate Lebanon on a map or they'll shoot.
Basically not to sound stupid and ignorant to other people. I'm not telling you that you have to know that Kazan is the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, but basic knowledge of geography is going to make you look smarter.
Maybe a little when you're young though. So you're not completely useless. Like I'm sure at some point I was taught the provinces and the continents etc. but it was never a full course

It is an endless cycle
So basically nothing.

So threads like "how many continents are there?" will never happen again.
I don't think it's useless anyway. When I was little sometimes I used to stare at the atlas for hours and I discovered so many interesting places that I eventually visited. It makes you realize how wide and diverse the world is. And it did help me learn languages to an extent.
The reason why is because this Earth is our home and when you live in a home and you don't know anything about that home that makes you kind of fundamentally ignorant. But seriously, I was watching an old season of The Amazing Race and there was one girl who doesn't know what country London is in.
I'm taking human geography this ywar and it's one of the most informative, interesting classes I've had. I don't think Ive ever taken an actual geography class so actually Im not sure if all they learn about is names of cities and mountains and rivers.

So you can spend thousands giving into an establishment that feeds off of offering ******** classes that will be of no use in your life, only so you could get your degree in a completely unrelated field

As the rest of the world starts caring about the US less and less there is really no need for the US to learn about that there are more beautiful and interesting places than their basic ****hole. #truethat
Why learn anything? We'll all die along with the knowledge that we have acquired, so it doesn't matter what we learn or don't learn. Let people study what they want while they live if it makes them happy.
