Men are the biggest victims of violence including rape, but who is committing this violence? Not women. Rape in male prison is a serious problem but what is to be done to change it?
Women are given privileges in STEM fields now because they were often ignored and overlooked in the workplace in general.
The crime thing is legit and needs to change. The child custody thing is also very infuriating and needs to change.
The first part is kind of bullsh*t. Who cares about doors getting open, or seats given up? Women getting a lot of attention is not always a good thing since it could lead to catcalling or sexual assault and men feeling entitled to us.
The fact that men aren't allowed to be feminine or emotional is the biggest issue. There has been changes in how we view women and what they are capable of but for men there is little improvement. They are still being forced into gender roles.
She made some excellent points, and said some things that I hadn't considered.
However; I think the instances she pointed out in which women are "advantaged" are mostly superficial, and don't make up for the overall lesser/submissive role they hold in our society.
Women are protected from violence for the very reason they they are considered weaker than men, and doors are held open for them because men see them as potential mates, not because everyone respects women so much. Women are hired more in STEM fields because of the overwhelming lack of their presence due to the patriarchal society we've only recently moved away from, and despite being more hireable based on statistics, studies have shown that women in STEM fields are less respected than men.
At the end of the day, I don't think a few advantages women receive over men (which all stem from the perceived notion that they are weaker, their attractiveness, or workplace laws) make up for the lack of serious respect they receive overall and the double standards they are subjected to. Let's see how nice everyone is to her if she weren't beautiful.
What she is talking about sounds like privilege but when looked at below surface level, as iseeyouupsidedown briefly outlined. I disagree with what she's saying overall.
