South Park is more clever
now, but 90s Simpsons is far superior, something SP have acknowledged before. Simpsons peak has so many excellent jokes squeezed into every single scene. And the demand thing doesn't really make sense - Simpsons has demand for more 600+ episodes. Having annual seasons of 22 episodes > having two seasons a year with 17 episodes. Splitting it up doesn't somehow make more demand.
SP theoretically could overtake the Simpsons in episode count (very unlikely) but will never achieve the iconic status of Simpsons. It will never have the influence on popular culture, largely because the show doesn't appeal to nearly as wide a demographic as Simpsons does.
