The top hat clues were to the movie Top Hat which took place in a Hotel, and Elsa worked in a dark hotel as well as hotels being mentioned multiple times throughout the series.

Stanley also stayed in a Hotel at one point during Freakshow, I think.

Anyways I had this dream about Hotel and it was sooo good. It was this tragic story about how Lana had escaped Briarcliff, wrote Maniac, and planned to move to LA to tell the rest of her story. Sally was still a character but played by someone else and the Lowes did not exist. She is painfully unaware of her surroundings but stays there anyway, she is eventually trapped there in the Hallways by the Monsignor (who died there for some reason) and who blames her for his death. The whole season is basically her trying to escape, but by different means than escaping Briarcliff. She eventually finds out Thredson killed Wendy there, and jumps off the roof so she can be there forever with Wendy.

It was all so clear. I remember it like a movie. Ryan take notes
