In what sense?? if you are here to bring sales, you have to realize that are like like 12 years since Avril Lavigne's debut, sales can't be as high as it used to be, piracy is worst you can download the song or stream it for free on spotify nowadays, if you want to bring performance's skills the only one from the three you mentioned who has iconic performances is Britney, Avril Lavigne never was a great singer neither a performer, she was mediocre, where is her starpower???

Ok Dan Schneider, it has nothing to do with Avril's sales. I'm not even a legitimate stan of Avril, but I still find the 2002-2004 version of her more captivating and interesting than the industry's current popstars post-2010, or at least the kids they're desperately trying to make ones....

And if you read my OP, I was just watching the "MTV diaries" of Xtina, Brit, and Avril. Do I think they're the absolute most amazing artists? Not really, but they still, amongst many who debuted years ago and are still outdoing the current ones today, are more interesting. That's the whole point of my thread.

If the music isn't the focus, don't you think the star power and appeal should be?

Maybe they're not lacking, but they're just too out there or giving too much with all these different social media platforms. To me there's something off-putting about these celebrities sharing every aspect of their lives, taking selfies, going in on stans or haters etc. The fame of Xtina, Beyonce, or even Madonna, Cher, Whitney etc. is a more out-of-this-world or bigger than life kind of fame. The accessibility towards these artists was way different years ago, so maybe that made it more special.
