Stars like Madonna, Christina, and Britney took the world by storm and captivated generations. More than musicians, they were pop culture icons and global phenomena. However, since Gaga reached her stratospheric heights in 2009-2011, no other star has broken through with the same impact.
In an industry that is increasingly moving away from old standards, is Gaga the last great pop phenomenon?
Adele breakthrough was with 21, so yes, she's currently the last one.

The latest pop phenomenon is Adele.
I feel like even though Adele is undeniably more successful commercially than Gaga, her pop culture foot print isn't as large. One reason for this is that Gaga is a lot more polarizing than Adele. Everyone was talking about her during her debut whether it was love or hate.
Adele is most certainly a pop phenomenon. She writes and performs pop / popular music with soul and R&B influences. Just because she does not dance around with flashing lights and backup dancers wearing some insane getup does not suggest otherwise. In fact, a huge proportion of popular artists that would be considered pop phenomena have been much like Adele: singers and musicians.
Adele broke through after Lady Gaga, like the poll asks. Her breakthrough was with 21, and so she is technically the last enormous pop phenomenon in the industry.
