I would play the game. If twisting a few buttons on the machines turns a track I like into something that makes the crowds go mad, I would do it for the money and fame.
In the beginning of my career of course I would, I could always do my own stuff later on knowing that I could flop but it wouldn't matter because I would already had the amount of money that I wanted and I would just invest in other stuff that could give me that quick coins easily
Like look to Miley, she did sell herself out in the beginning not only because she was a kid but I guess because she could get tha coins easily and know she's doing her own stuff not caring for anything else haha
