Honestly, I don't think the Oscars are racist. The nominations don't even matter when you know who's gonna win bc lbr, Michael, will and idris weren't gonna win. It's Leo's year in lead and supporting is tight. How can the academy as a whole be racist when lupita and 12 years a slave were just recognized 2 years ago? I think it's sad that poc are usually recognized when they play civil rights era people, slaves, and other demeaning roles, but that is because those are the majority of quality roles offered to them by Hollywood. The acedemy isnt racist, Hollywood is. (Although I would have loved to see SOC snag best picture)

Kinda, but I mean Hollywood by screen writers, producers, directors and casting directors who believe that white led films are the only profitable films and don't want to hire other races. They are to blame for the lack of diverse nominations. Like viola said in her speech " you can't win an award for a role that is simple NOT there" that's the sad part. There genuinely are not that many leading poc roles. It's usually in a period civil rights/slavery piece or playing a drug dealer/ thug/ hooker/ other demeaning role like the funny fat black Bff or the shady big black girl.

Mediocrity should not be rewarded.
