Do people really still think about "morals" and "ethics" when it comes to creating laws?

I did a research on legalizing euthanasia in high school and college, and I came to a conclusion that it should be legalized
Canada is ahead of time like always
First was Netherlands though (iirc)

People should be free to decide when they want to die. I'm for assisted suicide.
